The Silver Antelope Award
Honoring Distinguished Service on a National and Regional Level
The Silver Antelope Award is one of Scouting America’s highest honors, created to recognize adult volunteers who have delivered outstanding, long-standing service to youth on a regional or multi-council basis.
First created in 1942, this prestigious award is presented by the National Court of Honor upon the recommendation of the National Service Territory (NST) leadership team. It honors those exceptional Scouters whose leadership, vision, and dedication extend far beyond the local council to impact Scouting across an entire region.
Eligibility & Nomination Criteria
The Silver Antelope Award recognizes registered adult volunteers who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and service at the territory, regional, or national level, alongside noteworthy contributions to their broader community.
To be eligible for the Silver Antelope Award, a nominee must meet the following criteria:
Registered Scouter: Must be a currently registered adult volunteer with Scouting America, aged 21 or older.
Scope of Service: Must have rendered distinguished service of an exceptional character to youth within a National Service Territory (NST) or region. (While local council service is considered, primary consideration is given to regional/territory impact).
Community Leadership: Outstanding personal achievements and service to civic, religious, professional, or charitable organizations outside of Scouting are heavily weighed.
Self-Nomination Is Prohibited: Candidates cannot nominate themselves. Nominations must be submitted by fellow Scouters or Scouting committees.
Professional Scouter Ineligibility: Professional Scouting employees (Scout Executives, Directors, etc.) are not eligible until at least five years after retiring or leaving professional employment.
How to Nominate a Deserving Scouter
Recognizing a leader who has made a transformative impact across our territory requires a detailed nomination packet highlighting their achievements.
Nomination Steps:
Obtain the Official Form: Download the current Silver Antelope Award Nomination Form.
Document Regional/Territory Impact: Detail the nominee’s leadership roles, committee service, special projects, and accomplishments at the territory, regional, or national level.
Highlight Community Service: Summarize their civic contributions, professional honors, and service to other youth-serving organizations.
Compile Endorsements: Gather strong letters of recommendation from territory leaders, council officials, and community leaders to support the nomination packet.
Submit to the Territory Selection Committee: Send the completed packet to the National Service Territory awards committee prior to the annual deadline.
